Also called the Nagarjunsagar Srisailam sanctuary this is a land with the best sights of tigers and is one of the largest reserves for tigers in the country. Named after the Nagarjunsagar reservoir this is a beautiful green paradise with the ultimate travel ecstasies of a wild destination. The central and the western parts of the Srisailam sanctuary is a region that is made up of a plateau that shows the oldest geological formations and dates back to some 2000 million years. Called the Archaen these formations form a mainstay of tours to this part of the world.

The forest in this region is visited by all tourists and it was in the year 1973 that it was recognized as a sanctuary. Then it became a part of the Project Tiger. Spanning an area of around 3568 square kilometres, this is a wildlife zone that is located around 150 km from Hyderabad and covers regions of Nalgonda, Kurnool, Guntur and Mahaboobnagar. The pristine nature of the wildlife sanctuary is what makes the trips to Srisailam Sanctuary so special. With the majestic Nallamala hills surrounding the eastern and the southern parts of this paradise, the River Krishna surrounds it on the other side.

Very popular for the rich flora and fauna there is something very unique about the vegetation here which is mainly made up of the mixed deciduous forests filled with bamboo thickets and scrubs. The population of tigers here in the sanctuary has been decreasing and there have been many measures that have taken for the preservation of the species. These species are under threat of getting extinct.

The best time to visit this sanctuary is in the months of June to October. March to June are the hottest months here and the region gets some rain due to the south west monsoons.

Accommodation facilities here are convenient here and there are 3 guest houses in the forest region. With Hyderabad as the nearest airport, and the Markarpur railway station as the nearest railhead, the sanctuary is accessed from the nearby cities by road too.
