Posted in North America | March 25, 2010 | Comment NowBryce Canyon, the name itself is very confusing like the word Canyon, as Bryce is not carved by river, but the freeze-thaw cycles. Until now this huge carved stones are neither flattering nor adequate. For now, even you would agree with the people who say ‘Bryce is a Bryce’. But read further to known what is Bryce Canyon?
In the southwestern Utah, is situated a small national park known as Bryce Canyon National Park. This park was created in 1928 by the Mormon Pioneer Ebenezer Bryce.
The geology of the Bryce is very unique where you will find sequence of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters stones in the southern Utah, which starts from the Paunsaugunt Plateau’s eastern border. The colorful limestone rocks have been shaped by the very forceful frosting-wedging effect of rainwater. Previously the rocks were in Claron Formation, which due to rainwater and climatic effects, its shape was turned into unusual and bizarre shapes such as windows, slot canyons, fins and spires, mostly known as hoodoos. Thus, the rocks have large quantity of minerals in it, so you will see different shades of colors at every rock. Mostly the colors of the rocks are in the shades of red, white and pink. Together these rocks or towers, whatever you call it, create a mesmerizing view. It’s a great place to hike and walk around within the towers of beautifully carved, by the nature, mazes.
Ponderosa pines situated at the high altitude are field of a pasture, forests of fir-spruce that limit the perimeter of the highland and also thrive with wildlife. This area has the stunning bird’s eye view of three states, which give visibility of imminent 200 miles. At the night, the entire area is dark which gives opportunity once in a lifetime to see stars closely.
The Bryce Canyon National Park only occupies 56.2 miles of the in south-central Utah, to the Paunsaugunt Plateau’s eastern corner.
It is a scientist’s laboratory and a child’s playing field. As Bryce rise above 650 miles of altitude, the park is surviving the three separate climatic zones: Pinyon Pine/juniper forest, Ponderosa Pine forest, and spruce/fir forest. This mixture of habitat gives for high ecosystem. At Bryce, you will take pleasure in more than 100 types of birds, twelve kinds of mammals, and over a thousand types of plants.
Because of the rareness of the rocks, that Bryce Canyon was chose as a national park. These well-known spires, called “hoodoos,” are shaped because of rainwater and ice cut away the fragile limestone, which creates the Claron Formation. Nevertheless, the hoodoos’ geologic anecdote is also directly attached to the remainder of the Grand Staircase area as well as the Black Mountains and Cedar volcanic composite. In brief, Bryce Canyon National Park contains adequate mesmerizing geology to fill up a book.
