Amazing Jackrabbit

Jackrabbits derived their name due to their ears. Earlier, some individuals used to refer to them as ‘jackass rabbits’. Mark Twain, the famous writer, made the name famous by using it in his book on western adventure named Roughing It. The name was then shortened to jackrabbit.
Jackrabbits have five species. All five species are found in central and western America. Jackrabbits are very fast and can attain a speed of 40 miles per hour. They use their hind legs to propel them for more than 10 feet during leaps. They evade their predators by their high leaps and a zigzag running style.
Black-tailed jackrabbits are commonly seen in American deserts, scrublands, and open spaces such as farms. They consume vast amounts of grass and plants, including desert plants such as cacti and sagebrush.
White-tailed jackrabbits are the most common species. They are mainly found in North America’s plains and farmlands. They are also found in wooded areas. They are massive eaters and consume over a pound of grass, shrubs, and barks.
The jackrabbit is famous for its breeding prowess. Female jackrabbits give birth to several litters every year. The young ones mature at a quick pace and seldom require maternal care.
A large population of jackrabbits can cause umpteen problems for farmers because of their healthy appetite. To conserve the crops, jackrabbits are often killed. However, the species is not endangered and they do not need conservation.
Jackrabbits adapt well to different conditions and reproduce at a quick pace. Hunting of these jackrabbits is not regulated. They are a common source of meat among the rural regions of North America. However, they are not ideal as a survival food as they are low in fat content.

I have been on several websites and am surprised that most of them don’t have the info I need. I am looking for family names of animals, such as a family of fish is called a school, a family of bees is a drone. Some of the ones I need are elephant, gorilla, hare, penguin, owl, raccoon, mole, dolphin and nightingale. Also, a lot of them don’t have what a mother and father is called such as for deer it is doe and buck. But what about a giraffe, gerbil, hawk, porpoise, wallaby, weasel, koala?
